 Why Add Vegan Options?

The Vegan Veto

Will a group of 5 people, including 2 vegetarians and 1 vegan, choose to dine at your restaurant? Many dollars will walk away with the vegan veto. Read about it more at jessikagriffin.com/veganmenu

Mainstream

With influential figures like former President Bill Clinton announcing his enthusiasm for a vegan diet, and celebs like Justin Timberlake singing “Bring it on down to Veganville,” it would seem that veganism is entering the mainstream. – Huffington Post, Interest in Vegan Diets on the Rise

Health Trends

The appeal and potential for vegan products is expanding beyond the small group of people who avoid animal products for ethical reasons to include the much larger base of consumers seeking healthier, cleaner foods, according to an industry expert. –  Food Navigator USA, Vegan is going mainstream, trend data suggests

The Death of Meat

Annual per capita red meat consumption in the U.S. fell 15% to 101 pounds in the past 10 years, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It’s down by a third since the early 1970s, when per capita consumption was pushing 150 pounds per year. And the downward consumption trend could soon accelerate, with major negative implications for the meat industry. – Nasdaq, How The ‘Death Of Meat’ Could Impact Your Portfolio

Part-Time Vegans

More people are pledging to go vegan for seven or 30 days, according to the Vegan Society. There were 40% more people signing up to this temporary menu in the first two months of 2013 compared with the same period in 2012, it says. – BBC, The Rise of the Part-Time Vegans
